SOUL FOOD SHRIMP AND GRITS

Shrimp and grits is a classic soul food dish that is usually served for breakfast or brunch. In my recipe, the shrimp are cooked in a Cajun sauce with bacon and andouille sausage and served over grits. It is simply delicious!

Collard Greens are a staple of Soul Food Cuisine. They are great all by themselves or when mixed with other greens such as mustard, turnip and kale. Greens are often cooked with ham hocks but smoked turkey, bacon or other proteins can be substituted to give them ultimate flavor.

“ You can’t be in Shreveport ,La without eating some real soul food. I was told to go to Taylor’s Catering and Soul Food, and this place did not disappoint! In Louisiana they cook with what is called the holy Trinity Onions, Celery and Bell peppers in every dish.I explained to the owner that I was allergic to onions and they made me some Neck Bones and Beef tips in a gravy without onions. This is a 5 star soul food establishment. ”

“ Once a week, I stop in at Taylor‘s for lunch! The food is always hot, seasoned, and flavorful. You don‘t have to worry about them being stingy either b/c you ALWAYS get plenty of food. Sometimes enough for dinner. It‘s cafeteria style, so there is no wait time unless you are getting seafood. it‘s cooked to order. Don‘t skip the Kool-Aid or any of the many homemade desserts. I always get the banana pudding. ”
